In Proverbs 10:30-32, we find the conclusion of the wicked compared to the righteous. Much of this chapter has been covered in some way throughout the beginning of Proverbs. Proverbs 10:30 shows the righteous will not be moved. We can also refer to Psalm 1:1-3 as evidence of this. The stability of the righteous is not in the individual themselves. It is found in God in Whom they trust. He is the One who will hold them in place. The wicked do not and will not be established. Again, Psalm 1:4-6 is very informative for the wicked. They do not stand, nor do they have any grounding.
Then we close with the mouth of the righteous compared to the wicked (Proverbs 10:31). From the mouth of the righteous is a well of wisdom. We have seen this throughout the Proverbs, but even in this chapter (Proverbs 10:11, 14, 18-21). To see who is righteous and who is not, it is possible to see it through the lens of their mouths and conversations. From one comes wisdom, the other is actually pretty gruesome. The tongue will be cut out! Is this literal? In some cases, it could be, but it could also be a picture that these individuals will lose their speech. Either case, the contrast is easily and powerfully seen. When we talk about wisdom, in this case, we have covered this word in Proverbs 1:2, 7; 2:2, etc. We would do well to look back at those posts to refresh our minds on these meanings.
In finality, the lips of the righteous know what is right and good to say. The righteous speak what is right, good and holy. Proverbs talks about this appropriate conversation in texts such as Proverbs 25:11. But look at the beauty of what is presented by this word. It is fitting, and presents an amazing picture. But not so for the wicked. The wicked can and only speaks of perverse. This is the very thing that is against God's call to that which is right, clean, and holy. Here is the view of the Bible in Proverbs 18:6-8. It really is not a good thing.
So, dear reader, what do we think, now that we have walked through Proverbs 10? Have we seen the difference between the righteous and the wicked? Where do we find ourselves landing? In our text today, how is our word? Is it reflective of righteousness or of wickedness? If we use the balance of Scripture we can and should measure ourselves. Let us measure ourselves, pray, and walk in a way which honors and glorifies God.
